Flinders University provides travel insurance cover for members of the University community who have been approved to travel for and on behalf of the University.
If you are a student enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course, including a research higher degree, at Flinders University travelling within Australia or overseas for your studies, then you are eligible to access cover for your university travel, subject to University and policy terms, limitations and exclusions. You are able to access travel insurance for your university travel if you are getting credit towards your Flinders University studies or your trip has been otherwise approved by your College subject to the following conditions:

Note - Some countries and/or overseas institutions may require students going on exchange, placements, internships, etc, to obtain in-country health or other insurances. The University’s travel insurance will not override this requirement, and you must obtain the required in-country insurance before you leave Australia.
The University’s travel insurance policy contains exclusions relating to known or suspected pre-existing medical conditions.

We recommend that you obtain current written clearances to travel from your treating Doctor(s) and keep the letter(s) with you in case of a claim. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate level of cover.
Personal effects including laptops and electronic equipment, travel documents, money, credit cards and jewellery (if not worn) should be carried on board in your hand-luggage and securely stored at all other times. Maximum claim limits and excess amounts can be found in Section 7 of the Schedule of Benefits under Category B.
The maximum duration of any journey under the University’s travel insurance policy is 365 days.
Whilst travel for undergraduate students is limited in the first instance to 180 days, additional insurance may be obtained at an additional cost for up to 365 days travel using the Additional Top Up insurance form (subject to eligibility and provided that the percentage of the incidental private travel does not exceed 50% of the study component).
Additional Top Up travel insurance can only be applied for prior to the commencement of the journey.

If emergency assistance is required, then Chubb Assistance should be contacted before any action is taken and cost incurred whenever possible to do so.

Our insurer Chubb has partnered with WorldAware to provide a range of up to date travel safety and security information in your area. To access the Chubb Assistance services provided by WorldAware, register with your policy number 03PP006831. We would also encourage you to use this service, and to download the accompanying TravelKit app.
