On receipt of your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), you may apply for a student visa.
If you live outside Australia, applications for student visas are made at the nearest relevant Australian Embassy, High Commission or other representative office in your home country. Details of overseas offices are available at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.
Flinders University recommends you visit the Department of Home Affairs website for comprehensive information about applying for a student visa. There are different requirements for students from different countries and you can find the most up-to-date information on the website.
Students are responsible for obtaining a visa that permits them to study in Australia and ensuring it is current for the duration of their course.
As an international student on a student visa, it is important that you are aware of your visa’s expiry date and comply with the visa conditions at all times.
You can either check the visa expiry date on your Visa Grant Letter or via the Department of Home Affair’s Visa Entitlement Verification Online System (VEVO). We generally recommend applying for a visa renewal at least 4-6 weeks before your current visa expires.
Please refer to the information below on 'How to apply for a CoE extension'.
Note: If you are an Australia Awards Scholarship holder OR postgraduate research student, please contact International Student Services (ISS) to discuss your case.
You will need to extend your OSHC to align with your new visa period. Please include 2-3 months for your OSHC from the end date of your new CoE.
Note: Sponsored students must contact Flinders Connect to organise their OSHC.
Medibank OSHC
Please contact the Medibank Private representative located at Flinders Connect to renew your Medibank OSHC or join Medibank.

You need to apply online to the Department of Home Affairs. You can submit an application for a Student Visa subclass 500 visa either by yourself or by using a registered migration agent.
All students (except Australia Awards Scholarship holders) on a student visa are required to maintain a valid, up-to-date and current CoE at all times.
Under Standard 8 of the National Code, international students are required to complete their course within the expected duration.
ONLY under the following exceptional situations with proper supporting documentation, the University can extend the CoE of a student:
If you have any of the above situation and need assistance, please contact iss@flinders.edu.au.
*Please note, if you have deliberately under-enrolled, you may not be issued a new CoE.
Once you have completed all required actions above, it will take 3-5 working days to have your CoE issued and an electronic copy will be sent to your Flinders email address.
